For nearly sixty years, Babe’s Restaurant in North Truro had been known as a great breakfast place. Famous with locals and tourists alike for its French pastries and homemade baked goods. But in 2006, chef and new owner Peter Thrasher re-opened its doors with a decidely new twist. Instead of the smells of fresh baked brioche at 5:30 A.M., the neighborhood was now awash with the aroma of grilled kebabs and roast lamb some 12 hours later.

Babe’s is no longer a breakfast diner, but a cozy neighborhood bistro. One that has garnered quite a following with its unique menu focusing on the exotic and provocative flavors of the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa.
For chef Thrasher, this menu is the culmination of twenty years spent traveling the Mediterranean lands and having lived briefly in both Turkey and Morocco, collecting countless recipes and learning the traditional methods of cooking. He changes the menu often, sometimes on whim, sometimes depending on the availibility of fresh, local seafood, sometimes because of a particular seasonal dish, and sometimes because something exciting just happens to be coming out of his wife’s organic garden at the time.
